Challenge overview

Pick one small crochet project (or a set of practice swatches) and stay with it for the week. No pressure to finish something huge — just clean stitches, simple shapes, and visible progress.

Level: confident beginner Time: 3–6 hrs total Best for: yarn + crochet hook
Your goal: complete one cozy crochet piece or a tidy stack of swatches by the end of the week.
Constraints: one main yarn, one hook size, and projects that fit in your hands (no blanket-scale epics).
Bonus: add a small detail — a border, stripe, or tiny embellishment — once the base is done.
Yarn, hook, and small crochet projects

What you’ll need

  • A few skeins of worsted or DK weight yarn (1–3 colors)
  • Your favorite crochet hook in a matching size
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors and a stitch marker or scrap yarn
  • Optional: pattern printout or notes
  • Optional: small basket or bag to keep your project together

Challenge steps

Use these as a loose structure for your week. Adjust project size, timing, or details to fit your energy.

1
Day 1–2 — pick the project

Choose something small: a mug cozy, simple beanie, coaster set, or a handful of swatches. Do a 10–15 minute test to check your tension and hook size.

2
Day 3–4 — settle into the repeat

Work the main body of the project. Focus on even stitches and a relaxed pace. Put on music or a podcast and let the pattern repeat calm your brain.

3
Day 5–6 — tidy + add detail

Weave in any early ends, smooth out edges, and add one small detail: a stripe, a contrast row, or a decorative border.

4
Day 7 — finish + photograph

Give your piece a quick lint-roll or steam if needed, then photograph it in good light. Note what felt easy and what you’d like to practice again next time.

Optional twists

  • Make a tiny “collection”: three coasters, two mug cozies, or a set of matching swatches.
  • Limit yourself to one evening per day and see what you can do with strict time boxes.
  • Choose a color palette based on a photo or object you love.
  • Use only yarn you already own — no buying new skeins this week.
  • Keep simple notes on hook size and stitch counts for future you.

Share your crochet week

When you wrap up, take a picture of your finished piece (or your swatch stack) and add it to the community gallery. A sentence or two about what you learned helps future you — and other makers.
